What is ZIMRA registration, and does my company need it?

ZIMRA registration is a Zimbabwean company’s registration with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, done online on its TaRMS portal. It issues the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) the company uses for every transaction with ZIMRA. Every business that trades must register, and a company that becomes an employer must apply within 14 days of becoming one.

What ZIMRA registration is

ZIMRA’s guidance for new businesses says that all clients who want to venture into any business, including individuals, companies, partnerships and cooperatives, are required to register with ZIMRA and comply with their obligations. Registration is done on the TaRMS self service portal: you create a user account, choose to register as an organisation, follow the steps and attach the documents the system asks for.

When the registration is complete, ZIMRA issues a Taxpayer Identification Number. ZIMRA describes it as the business’s identification number, used for all transactions with ZIMRA, including paying tax.

The same instructions ask the business to select its preferred bank, to link to the ZIMRA Single Account held at that bank, and note that the business should be an account holder at that bank to make tax transactions.

Who needs it, and when

What registration commits the company to

Registration starts a calendar. These are the dates ZIMRA’s New Businesses page sets out for a business that is registered and operating.

Registering with ZIMRA when you are not in Zimbabwe

TaRMS registration is online, so ZIMRA’s own process does not need anyone at a counter. What we need from you is the certificate of incorporation, the directors’ identity documents, the address the business trades from and a plain description of what it does, because that description decides which tax heads are opened.

ZimCompany prepares and files the registration from the pack collected for the company registration, so you send your documents once. A ZIMRA registration waits for the certificate of incorporation, because there is no company to register until the registry issues it.

What this costs

Our fee for zimra registration and tin in Zimbabwe: US$90. Government fees included in the price, not itemised by ZIMRA. Our fee and the government fee are always shown as two separate numbers.

Each item takes five working days from the day we have your complete documents, confirmed in writing by our filing partner. Where one item depends on another they run in sequence, so a ZIMRA registration waits for the certificate of incorporation and a tax clearance waits for the ZIMRA registration.

You pay in full when you instruct the job, in one payment rather than in stages. Our fee and the government fee are separate numbers on the quote, and government fees are passed through at cost. Your quotation arrives by email. Reply to it and we confirm your timeline in writing before you pay. If we cannot confirm a timeline in writing, anything you have paid comes back in full. Prices were last verified on 10 September 2026. The full price list is at ZimCompany pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Does a newly registered company have to register with ZIMRA straight away?

ZIMRA’s New Businesses page does not set a number of days for a newly incorporated company. It says anyone who goes into business must register, and it gives an employer 14 days from becoming an employer. In practice a company registers before it trades, because a tax clearance certificate and VAT registration both depend on it.

What is a TIN in Zimbabwe?

The Taxpayer Identification Number ZIMRA issues when registration on TaRMS is complete. ZIMRA describes it as the business’s identification number, used for all transactions with ZIMRA, including paying tax. An importer also needs it to be identified at customs.

Can I register my Zimbabwean company with ZIMRA from outside Zimbabwe?

Yes. Registration is done on ZIMRA’s TaRMS self service portal rather than at an office. ZimCompany files it for you from the documents collected for the company registration, so nothing has to be signed in Harare.

What does ZIMRA registration cost?

ZIMRA does not itemise a government fee for it. Our fee for filing it is US$90, and our fee and any government fee are always shown as separate numbers.

What are the Quarterly Payment Dates?

The dates a registered business pays provisional tax: 10% of the estimated annual tax by 25 March, 25% by 25 June, 30% by 25 September and 35% by 20 December, according to ZIMRA’s New Businesses page.

How long does ZimCompany take to file it?

Each item takes five working days from the day we have your complete documents, confirmed in writing by our filing partner. Where one item depends on another they run in sequence, so a ZIMRA registration waits for the certificate of incorporation and a tax clearance waits for the ZIMRA registration. We do not publish a total for a job made of several items, because the dependent ones run one after another.
